Snowbombing is a prominent ski resort festival. The festival is an annual spring event at Mayrhofen Ski Resort in Austria. During its inception in 1999, the festival had taken place at Risoul Ski Resort. English promoters from Manchester, who goes by Outgoing Ltd. promoted the event as an apres-ski nightclub exercise. However, in 2005, Mayrhofen began hosting the event. Snowbombing ultimately blossomed into the biggest snowboarding and music festival in Europe.

The festival is renown for its creative and hilarious elements and ideas. Snowbombing also showcases the Austrian culture. For example, oompah bands, lederhosen, and sausages. Unique and unconventional attire is strongly encouraged. Fancy dress themes are embrace by Snowbombers (what they call the attendees). Cult celebrities like Mr. Motivator hype up and interact with the crowd.
“Established in 1999, The World’s Greatest Show on Snow is back, stronger, sexier, sturdier and downright sillier than ever before, with 2019 seeing us celebrate 20 years in the game! Showcasing 100+ acts in the most unique venues imaginable (think pop-up butcher’s shop parties, igloo raves, enchanted forest parties, Austria’s largest fancy dress street party) in one of the finest ski resorts in Europe. Luxury spas, authentic alpine cuisine and not a tent in sight. Chalet go on?”

Snowbombing includes fifty pools and saunas within proximity, which makes it more than just a snow festival. The most significant selling part is the beautiful alpine scenery. Snowbombing declares itself a party festival that also features comfort and luxury. The event has been syndicated throughout the continent. European channels like BBC Radio 1, Eurosport, MTV Europe, Channel 4 and Canal+ have all featured the festival over the years. Now, Snowbombing is a Broadwick Live promotion and production.

Snowbombing had initially been a DJ and electronic dance music event. Live acts were not added to the lineup until 2008. The addition echoed the revival of indie/rock music. The structure of the festival is to fuse extreme winter sports (with a heavy concentration on snowboarding) with on-piste and apres-ski music shows. The event also holds themed parties in unique locations, i.e., an igloo village, a forest clearing, a traditional remote alpine farmstead, and an open-air street party.

The festival is also noteworthy for attendees that do not fly to the event. The Snowbombing Road Trip is a leisurely drive through Western Europe that begins in the United Kingdom. The trip is well planned and features ways that travels can collect points on their journey to Mayrhofen. One pit stop includes an overnight stay in Frankfurt. Mayrhofen features an arrival parade that signifies the start of the festival.

Snowbombing has welcomed artists like Skrillex, Fatboy Slim, Ton!c, The Prodigy, Grandmaster Flash, Tinie Tempah, 2ManyDJS, Tim Westwood, Zane Lowe, Mylo The Cuban Brothers, Fabio, Example, Madness, Pendulum, Dirty Pretty Things, Skream & Benga, Chase & Status, Gilles Peterson, Grooverider, Madness, Freestylers, The Doves, Sub Focus, Magnetic Man, Chase & Status, James Zabiela, Pendulum, The Vaccines, and many more.
